Singer Sinéad O’Connor Dies at 58 – A Troubled Career Full of Controversies

July 26, 2023 – 58-year-old Irish singer, Sinéad O’Connor is no more. Her family confirmed the sad news Wednesday and a statement to RTE (Ireland’s National Television and Radio Broadcaster).

O’Connor rose to fame in 1990 with her number one hit Nothing Compares 2 U. The song was also nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1991. Her first album The Lion and the Cobra came out in 1987. In 1990, her sophomore album, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got” broke her to fame selling 7 million copies.

The very year she boycotted the academy stating “the academy acknowledges mostly the commercial side of art”. Almost two years after that incident, she would appear infamously on Saturday Night Live tearing up a photo of the Pope on Live Television. Serious backlash followed the stunt but she later stated that “she had no regrets”.

Sinéad O’Connor in here career, went on to release ten studio album and announced retirement from music and touring in 2021. She expressed the reason for her is retire is her old age and tiredness. But days later to her announcement, he took it back saying “I love my job”. 

Despite of her complicated success Sinéad O’Connor’s life was full of tragedy and mental health issues. She opened up and said she’d entered rehab in 2021. Following that year in 2021 she also revieled her 14-year-old son Shane had died.
